Nominee Evaluation Criteria
To be considered a qualified candidate for nomination, all nominees must meet the following criteria:
- Be a UMass Amherst alumna/us
- Be a dues-paying member of the Alumni Association in good standing
- Meet eligibility requirements for maximum allowable years of consecutive Board service
- Sign and pledge to abide by the Volunteer Code of Conduct, Confidentiality and Conflicts of Interest statement
- Submit a complete and timely nominee application
Additionally, the Nominating Committee will utilize the nominee application and interview process to consider, at minimum, the following criteria when making final determination of the nominees to be included on the ballots:
- Diverse Board representation
- Graduation decade
- Gender
- Race/Ethnicity
- School or College
- Degree and major
- Geographic location
- Specific professional expertise or educational background required to support achievement of current AA goals, including but not limited to:
- Human Resources or Career Services
- Communications or Public Relations
- Non-Profit or Fundraising
- Audit or Accounting Services
- Social Media or Internet Technologies
- Marketing
- Volunteer experience
- Alumni Association service and volunteer involvement
- UMass Amherst alumni/student volunteer involvement
- Other volunteer experience
- Ability and willingness to meet all Board member responsibilities
- Leadership qualities, including but not limited to:
- Commitment to diversity and inclusion
- Demonstrated ability to motivate others, problem-solve, resolve conflicts
- Experience working collaboratively towards common goals
- Strategic orientation, including but not limited to:
- Ability to think critically
- Long-range planning in support of organizational mission
- Developing goals and measurable outcomes
The Nominating Committee may disqualify any nominee for just cause. Just cause may include, but is not limited to:
- Conflict of interest
- Failure to comply with nomination procedures and timelines
- Failure to sign or violation of the Volunteer Code of Conduct, Confidentiality and Conflicts of Interest statement
- Failure of a current or past board member to maintain a minimum attendance record at Board and committee meetings of 50% during their term of office without just cause
