S. Lawrence Kocot '82, '86 MPA
Lawrence Kocot is deputy director of the Engelberg Center for Health Care Reform and a visiting fellow in the Economic Studies program at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC. He is examining the challenges of access, quality, and financing that face the U.S. health care system.
In addition, Kocot is senior counsel at SNR Denton LLP, an international law firm with offices in 34 countries. He is also a member of Virginia's Commonwealth Health Research Board and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Partnership for a Healthier America, an independent, nonpartisan organization that mobilizes broad-based support for efforts to solve the childhood obesity challenge.
Kocot previously served as a senior advisor to the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In this capacity, he was a key member of the management and operations team responsible for the national implementation and operation of the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit (Part D). He was awarded the Administrator's Achievement Award and Administrator's Citation from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in 2005 and 2007.
Kocot earned his juris doctor and master of laws degrees at the Georgetown University Law Center.
